Could Midnight Special be the best superhero movie of the year?

There are no shortage of comic book and superhero movies being released in 2016. Civil War, Batman V Superman, Deadpool and Suicide Squad are some of my most anticipated. However, it is often the overlooked films that can sneak up and really surprise… and that might just be the case with Midnight Special, from director Jeff Nichols.

The synopsis from IMDB:

The government and a group of extremists pursue a man (Michael Shannon) and his son (Jaeden Lieberher), a boy who possesses special powers.

The cast of Midnight Special is reason enough to give it a look. It includes Joel Edgerton, Kirsten Dunst, Adam Driver and other excellent actors. The trailer is intriguing and gives nothing away. Produced on a budget of only $18 million, this could be a surprise hit and possibly a box office success for Warner Bros., if they can get the marketing down. The trailer looks good, but I only really am aware of this film from conversations about it on a few podcasts, mostly Filmspotting. Midnight Special has a limited release date of March 18.
